My review and rate:
Cloverfield was something different and I like that. What I also liked is the clear images of the creature. Sometimes, in an otherwise good movie, the image is dark when creatures are filmed. IE covering up the low budget placed in creating a creature. Besides that I liked the different approach in the way it was filmed, the fact that it is recorded as it was a hand-held video camera carried by one of the actors, I also liked the story. Cloverfield is in my opinion a good movie and it had the best ending I’ve seen in a good while and I give it 5 stars out of 5 possible. I totally recommend it and I could watch it one more time and I look forward to doing so. Three or so weeks after watching this movie it is still in my mind, stil not forgotten like most movies I watch.

Wrong Turn at Tahoe (2009)

Wrong Turn at Tahoe

Mini info:
Featuring actors like Cuba Gooding Jr., Noel Gugliemi, Johnny Messner and Alex Meneses Wrong Turn at Tahoe is Rated R for strong bloody violence, pervasive language, some drug use and sexual content. Rated 6.3/10 at The Internet Movie Database.

Story:

My verdict and Rate:
Cuba isn’t a favorite actor of mine, I find the roles he pick to be a bit too mushy for my liking. In Wrong Turn at Tahoe he play the role of a bad buy and it suits him so much better. He oughta pick roles like this more often. He did it well. Overall Wrong Turn at Tahoe is an intense crime thriller that doesn’t let up. The dialogue is amusing and witty. I recommend it.

The Machinist (El Maquinista)

The Machinist (El Maquinista)
The Machinist (El Maquinista)
The Machinist, a mystery/thriller with the original title El Maquinista, has 7 wins and 8 nominations. The film is English but shot mostly in Barcelona, Spain, the year 2004. Rated R for violence and disturbing images, sexuality and language. 7.8 rating out of 10 possible at the imdb, I would give it a 7. It’s always enjoyable to watch a Christian Bale movie.

Christian Bale dropped an impressive (and horrifying) 63 pounds for the role as Trevor Reznik, an industrial worker with insomnia who hasn’t slept for a  year and slowly begins to doubt his sanity as bizarre things start happening. I won’t reveal the plot and anyone who is interested can voluntarily click this link and to read the plot summary for The Machinist at The Internet Movie Databse. :-)

The production designers had to painstakingly re-create the look and feel of Los Angeles with many ”everyday Americana” items in both interior AND exterior shoots. This included cigarettes, alcohol, street signs, traffic signals, public telephones, retail signage, automobiles, license plates, and also shooting in what writer Scott Kosar called ”some of the worst areas of Barcelona”.

Dolan’s Cadillac

Warningthis post contains movie spoilers.

Dolan's Cadillac 2009Thriller from 2009 written by Stephen King starring Christian Slater and Emmanuelle Vaugier. Rated 5.9/10 out of 904 votes at imdb, I think deserves a higher rating than that.

Dolan’s Cadillac is the story about one young mans attempts to seek to avenge his wife’s death after she is murdered by a Las Vegas mobster. His wife witnesses an execution in the desert and is then targeted by the mobsters who commited it, notorious Vegas crime lord Jimmy Dolan who’s vast wealth stems from his human trafficking operations. Dolan succeeds in having Elizabeth killed before she can testify against him and hence Dolan goes free, and Robinson must avenge Elizabeth’s death.

It’s not the usual revenge flick with much action and nothing more. This movie had originality and I can recommend it.

Män som hatar kvinnor (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo)

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo I don’t often get the chance to review movies that I watch. I watch plenty periodically but when I get the chance to update my blog I feel that I have something else that I rather share. Now I’m thinking it’s loong (no I did not misspell this word) over due for a movie post. Yes, I’m tired, it’s past midnight and I’d also love to be asleep but I want to update about this movie I saw: Män som hatar kvinnor (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo).

This is a mystery/thriller move and while I find the Swedish title misleading and non-relating to the story and it’s unlikely I would have watched this movie had it not been for the Swedish title which inspired to curiosity it’s not a fantastic movie however I did become quite intrigued by Noomie, the female lead character of this film. It did however recieve a 7.6/10 rating out of 5,164 votes over at imdb.

Rating: ★★½☆☆

Män som hatar kvinnor

(Swedish for ”Men who hate women,” renamed in the English translation as The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo)
Award-winning novel by the late Swedish author and journalist Stieg Larsson, the first in his ”Millennium Trilogy”.
At his death in November 2004 he left three unpublished novels that made up the trilogy. It became a posthumous best-seller in Europe.

Lisbeth Salander

Men Who Hate Women opened in France on 13 May, in Italy and Spain on 29 May 2009.

The girl who played with fire will premier simultaneously in Sweden, Norway and Denmark on 18 September 2009. In Finland, the film will open one week later.

The girl who kicked the hornets´nest will subsequently be released 27 November 2009 in Sweden, Norway and Denmark and in Finland during January 2010.

Rumors have been speculating on a Hollywood version of the book. Yellow Bird, executive producer Søren Stærmose confirmed in an interview with Swedish newspaper Expressen that negotiations are taking place. This would not be a US remake of the Swedish films but rather new Hollywood films based on the books.  – source
